Marion, Ala. — Thanks to the vigilance of our students and staff and our strong commitment to “See Something. Say Something.” R.C. Hatch High School safely resolved a situation today in which a weapon was found on campus.
Faculty immediately followed safety protocols, initiating a lockdown and notifying authorities. The Uniontown Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly, and a student was taken into custody.
All students and staff are safe and accounted for and the school has resumed regular operations.
“We are grateful for the cooperation of our school community and local law enforcement,” said Marcia Smiley, superintendent. “Your proactive actions allow us to keep our campus safe. We encourage everyone to report anything concerning, so we can work together to protect our schools.”
The district will review security measures and continues to call on the support of parents, students and the community to keep all Perry County Schools safe.
