We are proud to announce that Francis Marion School has been named a School of Excellence by A+ College Ready for exceeding its student growth goal on the PSAT 8/9 assessment. This prestigious honor reflects the commitment, resilience, and academic progress of our 8th grade students, supported every step of the way by our dedicated teachers, leaders, and families.
To earn this recognition, schools must demonstrate exceptional growth in student performance on the PSAT 8/9, a key measure of college and career readiness. Surpassing this rigorous benchmark is no small feat—it requires focused instruction, student engagement, and a shared belief in high expectations for all.
Recognition of this outstanding accomplishment took place on Monday, June 2, during the A+ Leadership Institute held at the Bryant Conference Center at the University of Alabama. In attendance to celebrate this achievement were Dr. Marcia Smiley, Superintendent of Perry County Schools; Mr. Demetrice Jackson, Principal of Francis Marion School; Dr. Theresa King, Assistant Principal of Francis Marion School; and Mrs. Allison Taylor, A+ Coordinator for Perry County Schools.
After the recognition, district and school leaders engaged in two days of professional learning focused on A+ College Ready standards, curriculum planning, and Marzano’s The New Art and Science of Teaching. These sessions strengthened our district’s ability to continue delivering high-quality, student-centered instruction.
This recognition belongs to our entire school community—including our students, faculty, staff, and parents—who work together every day to ensure academic excellence and future success.
Congratulations to Francis Marion School on this well-deserved honor!
