Recently, Albert Turner Elementary School held an academic celebration thus recognizing students who met or exceeded the state’s standards on the Alabama Reading and Math Assessment (ARMT) for the 2012-13 school year. Each student received an award (medallion) as their names were called by the leadership committee. Supt. Heard, Principal Pelt, Asst. Principal V. Jones, Board members Mr. E. Kirtdoll and Mrs. A. LeCroy were present to shake the students’ hands as medals were placed on the students. Approximately 192 students were recognized. Additionally, the top four boys and top four girls scoring the highest on the assessment were awarded with tangible gifts. Bikes were awarded to highest scorers; MP3 players were awarded to the second highest scorers; gift cards were awarded to third highest; and Hardees’s gift certificates along with school supplies were awarded to the fourth highest scorers. Over 150 parents were present to witness the celebration which was held in the Albert Turner Sr. Elementary School Gymnasium.
